Christmas Popcorn, Arthur Christmas & Fun For the Whole Family!

One of my favorite things to do around this time of year is watch Christmas movies. They get me in the holiday spirit almost as fast as the crazy Target Lady can! I have loved them for as long as I can remember. When I was little, my Mom used to do daycare, and I can remember everybody’s movie of choice during snack time was “Christmas cartoons” (a hodge podge of Christmas movies my Mom had taped off TV). I kid you not, we watched them 4 days a week, all year long! I have my all time favorites, Garfield’s Christmas, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, and National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, just to name a few! This year I am adding one more movie to my all time Favorites List, Arthur Christmas.

The movie hit theaters last year, but just got released on Blu-ray and DVD earlier this month. We watched it as a family for the first time a few nights ago, as we munched on some “Christmas Popcorn” (recipe below). This movie had me laughing from the very beginning! It starts out by giving an imaginative explanation of how Santa is able to get it all done in one night. It was seriously, the most clever idea I have ever seen for answering this age old question! You are then introduced to the entire, hilariously dysfunction Claus family, including the movie’s lovable hero, Arthur. The movie is witty, creative, and puts a modern spin on the traditional idea of how things are run up north. Heartwarming and hilarious, this movie is definitely an instant classic! My kids (5 and 3) were so captivated by the movie, that they barely touched their favorite treat, the Christmas Popcorn we made, oh well, more for me! If your are looking for a fun and simple family activity to do this Thanksgiving weekend, go grab a copy of Arthur Christmas! Here’s the popcorn recipe, super simple, but SOOO delicious!

Christmas Popcorn:
-One bag popped microwave popcorn
-three squares almond bark
-1/2 cup Christmas M&M’s
-Christmas sprinkles

Empty popped popcorn into large mixing bowl. Melt almond bark in microwave in 30 second increments (about a minute and a half total), stirring in between, until fully melted and smooth. Poor almond bark over popcorn, mix well and add M&M’s. Spread popcorn out over wax or parchment paper to cool and sprinkle with your choice of Christmas sprinkles. Break up once cool and enjoy!
