Countdown to Valentine’s Day!

This year I wanted my kids to have fun with this holiday, so I made a little countdown for us to do each night leading up to Valentines Day. They had fun with our Christmas Advent Calendar, and  who says advent calendars are only good for Christmas time? Here is what I did:I got one of the bazillion boxes of chocolates we got over the holidays:

This particular box I decided to use has 16 spaces for chocolate, so my countdown will be for the 16 days before V-Day. Your box might have more or less spaces, so adjust accordingly.

First, I cut some strips of Valentine-ish strips of paper and distressed the edges just a bit.
(I cut some to cover the sides of the box too)

I put a thin layer of Mod-Podge on the top and sides of the box, placed the strips over the Mod Podge and let it dry.  When it was dry, I put a thin layer of Mod Podge over the top of the paper.

I had these glass marbles just sitting around as left-overs from making some magnets a year ago, so tonight I thought I would put them to good use!

I printed some Valentine activities so that they were only 1 inch wide and would fit on the glass marbles. Here is a copy of that document if you want to use it- DOWNLOAD THE PDF HERE.

I cut each activity out and made sure it would fit on the marble.

Then I added some Mod Podge to the back of the marble and placed the strip of paper face-down onto the Mod Podge. I let this dry completely.
Using my 1 inch circular punch, I cut some circles from some scrapbook paper
and then glued these face-up on the back of the glass marble.
When they were all dry, I placed each marble into the chocolate box.
And now my family will start on the 29th of January choosing a random activity to do each night leading up to Valentines Day!
I can’t wait!

Very cute idea. We love doing advents for each month! There is always something fun to be able to count down for! I love the marble ideas. Now you can save it to reuse every year! I also love that you reused the chocolate box. I always look at anything I'm about to throw away and think about all the things that I could make with it! ;)
