Well hello there lovely readers! I am pretty excited about this weeks post and I’ll tell you why. I don’t have a lot of extra money to throw around but I love new clothes. So I have taken up thrift store shopping. Now trust me I like my things “New with Tags” as much as the next person. But one day I wandered into a new thrift store that opened up around the corner and had a revelation: These clothes are inexpensive (duh) so I can play around with them (aka: cut of sleeves, shorten, dye etc) without feeling awful if they don’t turn out right. So today I bring you my first experiment! And honestly I think it worked out just fine.
I am a pretty girly girl. I like my clothes soft and feminine and to be honest, when I do have some extra cash, I do most of my shopping at Anthropologie. So when I saw this thrift store find, for a whopping $4.99, it grabbed my attention because of the colors, the pleats at the waist, and the pattern. When I brought it home and tried it on I realized a few things: The length was terrible, the pattern was pretty overwhelming, and the pleats looked completely outdated on such a long skirt. So I decided the first step was to shorten the skirt into a mini skirt and see where that gets us. And I loved it!
Here is the original skirt and then the “Fix”
Here is why the new length completely took the skirt from an outdated mess to fresh and fun:
1. The pleats are now not being pulled down by the extra weight. So now the skirt has a “full” look, which is very trendy right now
2. The pattern itself works with the shorter skirt for obvious reasons- less skirt= less flower explosion= easier on the eyes!
3. The natural waist, flare of the skirt and the new length is MUCH more flattering on most body shapes. The cut is forgiving and the length doesn’t “stunt” my legs.
NOTE: If the length feels too short, opaque tights are a perfect fix.
Outfit Details: Skirt- Thrifted, Shoes & Sweater- Target. Entire outfit for under $40!
