Let’s unite together to help find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis!

One of the greatest things about having a blog is that I get to use it as a platform to promote efforts that are personal to me. I have seen the effects of what a blog like mine can do when ordinary people like you and me unite together with a common goal. We are all here to help each other. To offer support.

…and I love that about this blogging community!

This is Holly and her little girl, Ojaio.

Holly and I have been friends since Kindergarten and I’ll never forget the first day we met-

I was so excited when the whistle blew after recess one day because I was finally standing in line behind “the pretty girl”. Much to my dismay, another little girl came and cut in front of me, standing right between me and Holly.

In my most threatening kindergarten voice I said, “No cuts!”

…to which Holly then turned around and said, “But I said she could.”

I can’t remember if I stood up for myself that day or let the little cutter have my spot in line. Regardless, I know I didn’t stay deflated for too long because Holly and I became best friends soon after that day. And I eventually got to stand next to Holly quite often-

We swung on the swings next to each other and danced in the 6th grade talent show together.

We cheered on the same cheer squad and we sat next to each other in English during our senior year.

Holly and I did a lot of things together that best friends do, and she stood right beside me on my wedding day as my maid of honor.

I love Holly, and I am so, SO grateful for our friendship. Even after all these years and the distance that now separates our homes – we can get together for lunch and pick up right where we left off!

Holly is not only a great friend, but she is also an awesome wife and a fantastic mom to this sweet little girl, Ojaio Lux –

Ojaio is just a few months older than my daughter Leah.

She is smart, well-mannered and she is as sweet as they come… with a tiny bit of her momma’s sass!

Ojaio is a fighter.

And I know I don’t make the rules in this world, but I’m going to play the “that’s not fair card”  right now, so bear with me!

It isn’t fair that this sweet little girl has to fight so hard for something many of us take for granted almost everyday –

Ojaio has Cystic Fibrosis, a disease that affects your entire world – daily treatments, medication, worry about catching the smallest of germs because of the damage it can cause to your lungs.

This devastating disease is close to my heart as I see Holly and her family fully immersed in the fight against Cystic Fibrosis, hoping to find a cure in Ojaio’s lifetime.

Finding a Cure for Cystic Fibrosis

They have made some significant improvements to Cystic Fibrosis medications and treatments very recently. The thought of ridding this disease for Ojaio and other CF fighters seems so exciting and so attainable!

Holly and her family will be participating in the annual Great Strides Walk in Long Beach, CA to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Her team is called “Liam’s Legacy for Ojaio’s Hope”, named after her cousin’s son who lost his CF battle as a newborn.

Holly has set a goal to raise $1,500 for this walk.

I’d like to help Holly raise $1,500 by offering a special advertising promotion right her on Somewhat Simple.

I’m going to donate 100% of all the sidebar advertising money collected for the entire month of May to Holly & Ojaio’s Great Strides homepage.
