This chicken tetrazzini recipe is an easy family dinner that tastes delicious! Loaded with tender chicken and cheesy pasta, this simple recipe is easy to make and perfect for those nights when you need an easy dinner idea.
Baked pasta recipes are an easy go-to recipe when I don’t have much time to cook. Like this tetrazzini recipe, Baked Spaghetti and Cheesy Bakes Tortellini are some of my family’s favorites.
Best Chicken Tetrazzini Recipe
This chicken tetrazzini is a delicious twist on a casserole my mom used to make for us when I was younger. Not only does it taste good, but it is also very simple to make. My kids LOVE it, which is a huge bonus!
You’ll start by mixing your cooked fettuccine noodles with some cream of chicken soup, sour cream, and some shredded chicken. (I just mix it in the pot that the noodles boiled in.)
Tools For Making Chicken Tetrazzini
- A pair of good Kitchen claws make cutting green onions a snap
- Kitchen claws take the work out of shredding chicken
- A 9″ x 13″ casserole pan
Once your noodles are covered in sauce, pour evenly into a casserole pan.
Sprinkle with some cheese and bread crumbs, then bake this casserole for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted.
Before serving, sprinkle some green onions for added color and flavor, and you’re good to go!
So simple and delicious!
Can you Freeze Chicken Tetrazzini?
Yes, you can freeze this delicious chicken tetrazzini recipe so that it is ready when you are. Typically, I won’t leave a meal in the freezer for longer than two months. When you’re ready to use it, thaw it overnight in your refrigerator and don’t leave it on your counter top. Once the tetrazzini is at room temperature on your counter, bacteria can begin to grow and nobody wants that.
Chicken Tetrazzini Variations
- Use any pasta you have on hand – macaroni noodles are one of my favorite variations!
- Use canned tuna instead of chicken. (This would then be called my moms Tuna Casserole!)
- Add some vegetables to the mixture – broccoli, peas etc. This will add color and nutrition, but be sure to cook it longer, especially if you are using frozen vegetables.
What To Serve With Chicken Tetrazzini
- A seasonal fruit salad makes an excellent side
- These homemade dinner rolls are light and fluffy and the easiest to make
- A fresh spinach salad pairs well with this casserole

I love this quick and easy recipe! And so does the hubby! I usually grab a rotisserie chicken and makes it super quick and easy. I also add some Italian seasoning and garlic powder for more flavor.
LOL, I use a rotisserie chicken too! Love those seasoning ideas. I’ll have to try them the next time I make it.
This was a very quick and easy recipe to make and turned out delicious! I used spiral pasta instead of fettuccine. I also added some leftover steamed broccoli, garlic salt and about 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder. I thinned it a little with chicken stock too. Maybe 1/4 cup max. This is a keeper! It would also be good with cream of mushroom and some added mushrooms too.
Looks super yummy! Thanks for sharing it with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Any suggestions on something to use in the place of the cream of chicken soup? My husband is allergic to wheat so we eat gluten free around here. Can substitute the noodles out for gluten free easily, but I was wondering about the cream of chicken. Sounds amazing.
Hey Sarah, I am sorry I am not any help with this, but I am not sure what a good substitution would be. If you find something, please let me know!!! Thanks for stopping by!
We do gluten free and I searched Pinterest to find a recipe for gluten free cream of chicken soup. I just make that and add in place of the canned stuff and it’s really good. Great recipe!!
Thanks Megan, that’s a great idea! So glad you enjoyed this recipe!
This casserole wasn’t anywhere near hot after only 10 minutes. Did I miss something?
Did you put the ingredients in the oven right away when the noodles were still pretty warm? The oven is basically just melting the cheese since everything else is cooked and mostly warm. Sorry it didn’t turn out for you! I hate when recipes don’t work! 🙁
Thanks for replying, Stephanie. I rinsed the noodles in cool water. I’m guessing that made the difference. Not to worry…I just left casserole in oven for 30 minutes & it tasted gr-r-reat. Linda
Glad to hear it Linda! Have a merry Christmas!
Followed the directions except added a little more chicken to make it heartier and it was SO dry. Needs less noodles or more sauce. And some minced garlic. Not a lot of favor.
Could easily be frozen before baking, just thaw prior to heating or noodles might be hard.
Could this be frozen after cooked? Or could all ingredients be mixed together and then frozen-thawed-cooked?
have you tried freezing this?
What if you used a jar of the Ragu Alfredo sauce? Would you still use the sour cream or would that be too rich?
can i substitute cream of mushroom instead? help!
How many servings does this recipe make? Looks delish and I am planning to make it for my family of seven so wanted to know if I should double it! Thanks!!
Chicken comes in a can??? Ewwww!!!!!!!
Yep- I definitely prefer the non-canned chicken, but if you’re in a hurry you can pick chicken up at the grocery store canned and ready to go next to the canned tuna.
Stephanie, that recipe is right up my alley! Simple and delicious!
This is definately going on the menu this week 🙂
it's still morning, and I'm tempted to make that for breakfast! 🙂 YUM!
