Easy Truffle Balls
Stop what you are doing right now and run to the store. You will need just 3 ingredients and about five minutes of your time before your taste buds will feel like they have died and gone to heaven. These Oreo cookie truffles are so delicious, and they are super easy to make. These are made with Oreo cookies mixed with cream cheese and then dipped in chocolate…. are you still reading this, or are you at the store yet?
These Oreo balls are perfect for any party or special occasion because they’re so versatile. You can dip them in your favorite type of chocolate and decorate them any way you want. If it’s the holiday season, you could easily add a little peppermint to the recipe to make them a festive treat.
How to Make Oreo Cookie Truffles
Crush It – You’ll need to finely crush 1 package of Oreo cookies. You can either throw them in a food processor or place them in a large plastic bag and then roll over them with a rolling pin. Once they’ve been crushed, you’ll set aside 1/4 cup of the cookie crumbs for later.
Add Cream Cheese – You’ll want your brick of cream cheese to be softened before using it, so I’d recommend pulling it out of the fridge a little before starting. You’ll then mix the softened cream cheese with the remaining cookie crumbs until it’s blended together. Don’t be afraid to get your hands in there and go after it!
Make The Balls – Shape the cookie mixture into balls about 1-inch in diameter. Next, dip the Oreo cookie balls in the melted chocolate. Set them on a baking sheet lined with wax paper.
Decorate – Sprinkle with reserved Oreo cookie crumbs you set aside previously over the tops of the cookie balls while the chocolate is still wet. You can also add other delicious toppings like crushed toffee or a drizzle of white chocolate.
Chill – Let the chocolate harden by placing them in the refrigerator for about an hour- if you can wait that long! I actually like eating them before the chocolate hardens, but I don’t know if it is a taste preference or just purely impatience!
Recipe Tips & Storage
The Right Ingredients – I like to use regular Oreos to make these truffles. While the double stuffed Oreos are amazing to eat, there’s too much filling in them which make the balls harder to form. Also, don’t skimp and use a lite version of cream cheese. Not only is the texture going to be better but the flavor will be better too.
Easy Dipping – I like to use two forks to dip these Oreo truffle balls in the chocolate. It’s makes it easier to coat them evenly and to have the excess chocolate run off.
Storing – You can keep these in the fridge for about 5-7 days or you can freeze them for up to 3 months. In either case, place them in airtight containers before you store them so they last the longest.
