Mexican Hot Chocolate Chip Cookies Recipe

Soft, warm, and spiced like a delicious mug of Mexican Hot Chocolate.

  • 1/2 c butter softened (1 stick)
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 2 oz cream cheese
  • 1 egg large (room temperature)
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper or more if you like it spicy!
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup cinnamon chips


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Cream the butter and sugars until fluffy.
  • Add the cream cheese and beat until incorporated.
  • Add the egg and beat until incorporated.
  • Add the vanilla and combine.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, cornstarch, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and cayenne pepper.
  • Mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until fully incorporated.
  • Stir in the chocolate and cinnamon chips.
  • Using a medium cookie scoop, form dough balls that are approximately 2 Tbsp.  Roll between your hands to smooth them.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until set.  Do not overbake.
