Celebrating Christmas in July
A few years ago, we created a series called “Summer of Service.” What a great idea, right? I don’t know about you but it’s sometimes hard to think about service during this HOT and BUSY (more like CRAZY since the kiddos are home) time of year. But that’s NO excuse, especially because there are so many people (family, friends, neighbors, even strangers) who are silently suffering because of these hard economic times.
To get the kids more involved, I tried to think about the times our family has had the most fun serving, and I immediately thought of Christmas. It’s so easy and fun to think of others during the holidays, so I wanted to share with you an idea I came up with.
Christmas in July Ideas
We decided on a fun summer drink theme, but see below for more ideas! Here’s what we used to make ours.
Supplies:
- dink pitcher
- white plastic straw holder (we replaced the straws it came with, with darling Ikea smoothie straws)
- silicone ice cube tray (I’ve seen so many fun shape options lately!)
- Kool-Aid Packets
- Christmas in July Tag
- cute stirring spoon (I thought of this AFTER I put everything together. Insert facepalm.)
- scissors or paper cutter
- small hole punch
- ribbon or string
directions:
- First, print and cut out (with scissors or a paper cutter) our darling Christmas in July gift tags (download below).
- Punch a small hole in the top corner, thread your string or ribbon through, and tie to the handle of the pitcher.
- Fill your pitcher with all your thoughtful drink themed gifts.
- Deliver to someone who could use a little “Christmas in July” Cheer!
Other Christmas in July Gift Ideas:
- Water play: squirt guns, water balloons, etc.
- Popsicle making supplies
- Tickets to the movies with popcorn + soda in a basket
- Beach theme: beach ball, sunscreen, sand pail + toys.
The possibilities are endless! And it can be done anonymously or any way you’d like. I knew something simple like this (all bought for under $10) could make someone’s day or even week!
Here are some other posts that would be great as Christmas in July gifts!
- The Best Homemade Playdough Recipe (with some darling cookie cutters!)
- How To Make Slime (this would be great to just give them the ingredients and directions so they can make it themselves!)
- Bubble Snakes (make a bubble themed basket – add some bubble bath for mom 😉 )

It didn’t require a lot {one trip to Wal-Mart}, but doing something fun like this will show the kiddos how important and fun it is to serve others! PLUS, I know that if we think of others and strive to serve those around us more, not only will we make others happy, but we will be happier ourselves.
I hope we can all get into the Christmas in July Spirit by serving those around us! Happy gift-giving!
This is such a thoughtful and wonderful idea! I can’t wait to do this with my kids this Summer!
This is a great idea!! Thanks! …but it says you have to have a premium scribd account to download the tags…is there any other way to get these?
What a great idea! I love the idea of giving a Christmas in July to those in need. Thank you Kristyn for giving us the idea and the tools!
