An Easy Chicken Recipe
As a mom of 5 young kids, I try my best to find meals that are healthy for my family. The problem I seem to run into quite often is that eating healthy can also be quite expensive. So meals, like this teriyaki chicken, that are both budget-friendly and healthy always score big points with me!
Also, I use the term “recipe” very lightly for this dish because you only need 2 ingredients; chicken and store-bought teriyaki chicken marinade. Is that simple enough?
My husband has been eating this meal for almost his entire life. Years ago my mother-in-law showed me how easy it was and I’ve never gone back to the other recipe I have. You can quickly and easily make this teriyaki chicken it in a crock pot or the oven. I love how simple the recipe is and we all love how delicious it is. Needless to say, it’s become a family favorite.
Things I Used To Make It
- I used my favorite 8 quart crock pot
- This Yoshida teriyaki sauce is the absolute best and you can get a big bottle at Costco
- I love these stainless steel knives for cutting the chicken breasts into smaller pieces
How to Make Teriyaki Chicken
Chicken Prep – For this recipe, you simply need a couple boneless skinless chicken breasts. Cut each chicken breast into cutlet size pieces.
In The Oven
Oven Prep – Lay slices of chicken in a single layer in the baking pan. Pour enough of the teriyaki marinade into the pan so the chicken is about 2/3 of the way covered.
Bake – Cook the chicken for about 3-45 minutes at 350 degrees F. Make sure the chicken is no longer pink inside and the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees F.
In The Crock Pot
Slow Cooker Prep – You’ll set the chicken breasts in a crock put and cover them with the delicious teriyaki sauce.
Cook – Let the teriyaki chicken cook on low all day for about 6-8 hours. Your house will smell amazing all day and by dinner time you’ll be ready to dive in!
Tips For Making Teriyaki Chicken
- The Best Teriyaki Marinade – I have tried PLENTY of other sauces and they are too salty, too bland, or too runny. This is the secret to a great tasting teriyaki chicken! It is actually a marinade, so it is thicker, sweeter, and just completely delicious. And I am not getting compensated in any way to say this. (Though I probably should get paid, right?) Trust me on this – Yoshida’s is the only one you want. (Just wait ’til you taste it- you’ll never spend another minute mixing flavors to come up with your own teriyaki sauce ever again. I promise.)
- Serving – I like to serve a small cup of the teriyaki sauce from the pan right next to each plate so guests can dip their chicken if they want to.
- Size Matters A Little – You can use full chicken breasts for this recipe if you want. However, I like to cut mine into cutlet-sized strips so they cook faster and they soak up more flavor and moisture.

This is exactly how our family makes it too! It also works really well on boneless skinless chicken thighs served over rice. Oh, and its good on pineapple (grilled or added to the chicken…yummy.) I think I know what I'm making for dinner!
