Several months ago, I bought a container of popping corn so I could use it to make some fall centerpieces. Not wanting to waste the extra popcorn kernels, but not owning any fancy air popper, I decided to try my hand at making popcorn in my microwave using a simple brown paper bag.
Have you tried this before? I was amazed at how easy it is!
How to Pop Popcorn in the Microwave Using Just a Paper Bag
Items Needed – All you need is a 1 brown paper lunch bag and a 1/4 cup of popcorn kernels.
Prep – Place the popcorn kernels inside the paper bag, then fold the top over twice.
Cook – Place the bag of kernels inside the microwave, folded side down, and cook for 2 minutes. Pull it out of the microwave and carefully open the top to let the steam out.
Season – Lastly, season with butter, salt, or seasoning, if desired.
What Size Paper Bag Do I Use?
Pretty much any size brown paper bag will work just fine (as long as it fits easily in the microwave) but we suggest using a standard-sized lunch sack. Also, make sure you are using a paper bag without any designs on it as some designs are made with metallic paints and can burn when heated in the microwave.
How Do You Know When The Popcorn Is Done?
Pay close attention to the popcorn in your microwave. When there is more than a two-second pause in popping, stop the microwave and pull it out. Otherwise, you’ll end up with what my kids call “chocolate” popcorn. I promise, you don’t want that.
