Grab your kids, today’s post is just for them! We’re showing off a simple, yet darling, easy Halloween craft for kids— Masking Tape Mummies!
My daughter’s teacher asked me to help teach an art lesson for their Halloween Party, and this fun project came to mind. It was one I remember making in elementary school, and her class loved it as much as I did! This idea is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-aged kiddos.
Here is how to make this easy mummy craft:
What You Need To Make A Paper Mummy
- black paper
- white pencil/ crayon
- masking tape
- scissors
- googly eyes
- glue stick (if your googly eyes have adhesive on the back, you won’t need this)
- free mummy template + printable accessories (download below)
- crayons / colored pencils / markers
- craft sticks, optional
How To Make A Masking Tape Mummy
Trace the outline of a mummy with your pencil onto your black paper.
Tear off strips of masking tape and lay them in a random criss-cross pattern all over the body of the mummy. If you have a hard time seeing the mummy outline once your tape is on, you can retrace your mummy pattern on top of the tape.
Cut the body of the mummy out, then glue down your eyes where you want them to be.
Color and cut out any paper doll accessories included in the printable, and attach them to your mummy.
… and that’s it!
If you are planning to make these in a big group or for a class art project, you can do a little prep work beforehand that will help this project run even smoother:
- Draw all the bodies on the black paper so they won’t even need a pattern or white pencil.
- Wrap masking tape around craft sticks and stick two eyes onto each stick with glue dots.
With this preparation, each student was given a piece of black paper + the printables, and a craft stick. All they needed from their desks were their own scissors, crayons, and glue.
The kids taped the craft stick to the back of their mummies and made a cute puppet!

hi it gave me another printable
Hi! Sorry not to respond sooner! For some reason, my spam folder caught this comment and I’m just now seeing it! I just checked the file and it should be working – I think it might look different at first because the accessories for the mummy are on the first page of the file and the template for the body is after that. Hope that helps!
LOVE your masking tape mummy craft! I tried to get the printable but the link sent me something different. Could you please send the mummy link to me. I can’t wait to do this with my grandkids! 🙂 Thanks!
