Tacos are usually my go-to recipe for an easy weeknight dinner, but I decided I could switch it up a bit and still satisfy my cravings with these tasty honey lime chicken tostadas. If you haven’t tried chicken with this amazing honey and lime flavor combination, you are in for a tasty treat!
I am seriously a sucker for any chicken that has honey and lime, but the added spices in this dish are just so delicious. I loved how these tostadas turned out so much that I wanted to share them with my favorite readers!

The great thing about chicken tostadas is that you can customize them with as many toppings as you like, so everyone is happy. Here are some suggestions for my favorite toppings:
- Refried beans
- Black beans
- Your favorite cheese
- Lettuce
- Tomatoes
- Pico de gallo
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Onions
- Bell peppers
How To Make Chicken Tostadas
Chicken Prep – Start by cooking your chicken completely. Once cooked, you’ll want to shred it until you have 2 heaping cups. If you need more, you can easily double the recipe. I would also recommend using meat claws to shred it because it’ll be hot and these just make it easier to handle.
Marinate – Place all of the spices in a mixing bowl and stir until they’ve blended together. Toss in the chicken and stir it a little more until all of the chicken has been coated. Let it sit and marinate while you prepare the rest of meal.
Tostada Prep – Wash and cut all of the vegetables you plan on using for your chicken enchiladas. You’ll also want to warm up the refried beans. Separately, add the chili powder to the sour cream and give it a good stir until they’re fully mixed.
Compile – I like to use corn tostada shells as the best of my chicken tostadas but you can also use regular corn or flour tortillas. You can’t find the tostada shells, you can also take the regular tortillas and baked them to turn them nice and crispy. Then layer your tostadas with the honey and lime chicken and other toppings you love.

Honey Lime Chicken Tostadas Recipe
Ingredients
for the chicken
- 4 Tbsp honey
- juice of 1 lime
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/4 tsp chili powder
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 2 cups chicken, (heaping cups) & shredded
for the tostadas
- 6 corn tortillas
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 tsp chipotle chili powder
- 1 can refried beans, warmed
- 2 cups lettuce, shredded
- 1 cup cheese, shredded
- 1 cup tomatoes, diced
- 1 red onion, diced
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 avocado, sliced
Instructions
- Add all ingredients for chicken in a medium bowl and let marinate while you prep everything else.
- Add the chipotle chili powder to the sour cream and thoroughly combine. Set aside.
- Spread tortillas with refried beans and top with shredded cheese. (You can place this under a broiler for about 30 seconds if you want it melted and warmer.)
- Layer each tortilla with chicken, lettuce, tomatoes, bell pepper, cheese, avocado and a dollop of chipotle sour cream.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
