Easy Sugar Cookies From Scratch
My sister-in-law made this easy sugar cookie recipe at my house a couple years ago and I have been making them often ever since. They use only simple ingredients that you typically have in your pantry. And the best part is that they don’t require any patience while chilling in the refrigerator.
The dough comes together in just a few minutes, and I love that it doesn’t require any weird ingredients. In fact, the only ingredient that I didn’t have on-hand at the time was butter flavoring. (Now I keep it stocked in my pantry JUST for this recipe!). Plus, they turn out soft, fluffy and super delicious every time! Is there anything better than that?
How to Make Sugar Cookies
These sugar cookies are super easy and I’m going to show you how to make them in just 10 minutes.
Prep – Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F. You’ll also want to line your cookie sheet with either parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
Mix – Throw all of the ingredients into a large bowl and mix everything until the ingredients are fully blended together.
Roll – Roll the dough into 1 inch balls. Place them on your cookie sheet with enough space in between each one so they can spread out while cooking.
Cook – Bake the sugar cookies in the oven for 7 minutes. Pull them out and let them cool and finish baking on the baking sheet. They should stay tall and fluffy!
Decorate – Allow your cookies to completely cool before bedazzling them. I love to top mine with a Cream Cheese Frosting but any frosting will be delicious.
Recipe Tips
Don’t Over Bake – After 7 minutes DON’T leave the sugar cookies in the oven even if they look like they need to bake longer. They’ll go from perfect to ruined in just about a minute.
Butter Flavoring – You can find it with the baking supplies at your grocery store. It comes in a bottle that looks similar to vanilla extract. Here is a link to the Butter Flavoring we used so you can see what it looks like.

Other Notes
There is no way that 7 minutes does this baking, I have made several batches of these between last year and this and they simply DO NOT GET DONE in 7 minutes. Oh and I just saw I had submitted this same information prior. However, making another batch today, I am further frustrated at the bake time!!
The time on these cookies, I feel, is way way…off the first time I made them..7 mins. was not enough I put the back in after they cooled and I saw they were not done…they did not get done the second baking either..the third baking I suceeded in burning them. This year, today, I tried again..the same thing. My second batch is not in..after 10 mins…for another 2 minutes:” I have a new oven..that should NOT be the problem. I don’t know what is?
I made this with gluten free cup4cup flour and they are amazing! I wanted to make something quick and just googled “quick easy baking” and was not disappointed at all! My husband and I can’t stop eating them!
Yay! I’m so glad you guys enjoyed them! Thanks for your kind comment!
Can this be cut out cookies??????
Yes!
These cookie were so yummy! I can’t believe how easy they were to make and they turned out perfectly. A keeper!
That’s exactly why it’s my favorite sugar cookie recipe.;)

Yummy!! So easy to make and super delicious. I love these sugar cookies! 🙂
Thanks Matt!
I wanted to check exactly what does the t stands for in the recipe list. Is it teaspoons or tablespoons?
It is for teaspoons. 🙂
Hi was wondering if you have the recipe in the metric system? Was really looking forward to making this but when I convert it, it doesn’t seem correct??
If not no worries 🙂
Unfortunately, I don’t. Sorry about that!
I’m about to bake these cookies they look so good I bake a lot and sometimes with my little sister she loves to bake she’s 5 she’ll love ur cookie recipe 💗
That’s so awesome that you get your sister involved! Let me know how they turned out.

I LOVE how easy these sugar cookies are to make. The icing looks just as amazing as the cookies. Can’t wait to try them with my kids.
Thanks Valentina, they really are super easy to make!
These cookies are so easy to make! I could eat a whole dozen!
LOL, I’m so glad you loved them!
I am not sure if you are supposed to press the cookie down. Mine stayed in the ball. Looked like it wasn’t done. The dough is like cornmeal. Did I do something wrong. I followed the recipe to a tee
You aren’t supposed to push them down- they stay soft, but it should’ve cooked through. I am sorry they didn’t turn out- that is very frustrating!!!!
Yum these look amazing and easy!
Thanks Valerie!
These look delish and I can’t wait to try them, but how did the frosting
turn out pink!
Food coloring- use any color you want! 🙂
What is “butter flavoring”?
That is a good question! This is the only recipe I own that uses it. It is found by the vanilla extract and comes in a similar bottle. I added a link to the post under the ingredients to show you exactly what I am talking about on Amazon. Hopefully that gives everyone some clarification!
I want to bake them now but the only ingredient I’m lacking is the butter flavoring. Is it absolutely necessary? Call me lazy and impatient but I don’t want to run to the store, I just want to bake these cookies and pretend I’m the Cookie Monster afterward 😉
This just made me laugh! I’ve never made them without the butter flavoring, but if you’re desperate enough, give it a try! 🙂
Let's just say that i'm pregnant and I just went and made these… I can't wait to eat one. I was seriously salivating 🙂
I think I'll make your recipe this weekend.
YUM!!! Thanks for the recipe and frosting idea!
The cookies look tasty!
I love that these have to be thick! My mom and I can't bake cookies together because I like em thick and she likes em thin.
They turned out so pretty.
These look so yummy!!
