The Best Homemade Dough
We have pizza in some form or another every week! Calzones, pizza cupcakes, french bread pizza, and more! There’s nothing better than a simple meal that tastes amazing and comes together in a snap! One of my family’s favorite ways to consume our pizzas is with this easy homemade pizza dough!
Not only is this pizza dough easy to make, but it’s also super fast, too! The recipe calls for 5 ingredients and comes together perfectly every time! If you’re worried about using yeast, try this recipe anyway. If your yeast isn’t bubbling like you think it should, bake it anyway! The flavor and texture of the dough really is the best – not too thick, not too thin.
This dough can handle all the toppings and sauces you love, so feel free to go as simple or gourmet with your pizzas as you’d like!
Ingredients You’ll Need
- Warm water
- Active dry yeast
- Sugar
- All-purpose flour
- Salt
How to Make Homemade Pizza Dough
Activate Yeast – The first thing you need to do is to activate the yeast. Simply whisk together the water, yeast, and sugar together and then let it sit for about five minutes until it starts to bubble.
Stir – Next, you’ll need to add the flour and salt, and then mix everything together with a wooden spoon until the dough forms.
Knead – Now, gently knead the dough until it is mixed well and the dough is soft.
Rest – Form the dough into a ball and then cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Baking Prep – Place a pizza stone or overturned cookie sheet in a cooled oven, and then preheat the oven to 500 degrees F.
Build Your Pizza – On a floured surface, roll the dough out to form a large 12-inch circle. Transfer the dough to a piece of parchment paper that has been sprinkled with cornmeal or more flour. Top with desired pizza toppings, then transfer the parchment paper and pizza to the preheated baking stone or cookie sheet.
Cook – Bake the pizza for about 8 or 9 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Recipe Notes
How Much Does It Make – This recipe makes one 12-inch pizza, or two 6 inch personal sized pizzas.
Make Ahead – If you don’t want to bake the dough immediately, you can cover it and keep it refrigerated for 24 hours.
Freezing The Dough – If you want to freeze the dough, place dough in a large plastic bag (the dough will expand) and store it in the freezer for up to six months.
Thawing – To thaw, place the dough in the refrigerator overnight, then let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before rolling out and topping it.

ENJOY!
Made this recipe today! Loved the crunchiness of the crust! I like crust thinner,so this worked well. You said to let rise in 15, I let rise for 30! I didn’t feel it was risen enuf so I let it go for another 30! Beautiful! It rolled out beautifully. I think the crust cud of been a bit saltier but overall will make it again! Enjoyed our supper immensely 🥰
Thanks Nettie!
