Here’s how to make it:
How to Make Teriyaki Sauce
INGREDIENTS –
- 1 3/4 cups water
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup soy sauce (I use a low-sodium soy sauce)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
DIRECTIONS –
- Mix all the ingredients in a small saucepan.
- Heat on medium-high heat until boiling, stirring frequently.
- Turn the heat down and let the sauce simmer in the sauce pan for about 10 minutes.
- You can use it immediately on your favorite dish, but it is even better if you let it cool slightly, pour it into an airtight container and let it chill in the refrigerator for 30-45 minutes.
This really has the BEST flavor!
VARIATIONS –
- Use the sauce as a glaze by adding a tablespoon or two of cornstarch as a thickener to your sauce pan before it boils.
- To thin it out and make it even sweeter, add 1-2 tablspoons of pineapple juice.
