Best German Pancakes Recipe
This is hands-down the BEST German Pancakes recipe! Not only is it made with only 6 ingredients you probably have in your kitchen right now, this recipe also takes about 5 minutes to toss together before you bake it… and it tastes absolutely amazing!
What are German Pancakes?
German Pancakes are a simple mixture of eggs, milk, flour and vanilla that you bake in a cast iron pan or casserole dish. These pancakes are often called Dutch Baby Pancakes, and they puff up while in the oven and then fall as they cool. You can top German Pancakes with the toppings of your choice – syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, etc.
How to Make German Pancakes
- Start by putting 5 tablespoons of butter into a cast iron skillet. If you don’t have a skillet, you can certainly use a 9×13 inch casserole dish. Place the skillet or dish into the preheating oven to melt the butter.
- Meanwhile, mix the eggs, flour, milk, salt and vanilla until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the baking dish with the melted butter.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until the edges are golden brown and puff up the sides of the skillet.
- Cut and serve warm.
- Top with powdered sugar, syrup, and/or fresh fruit.
We usually keep the toppings simple when we have these and will sprinkle them with powdered sugar or drizzle maple syrup, but if you’re looking to kick them up a notch, you must try them with some Cinnamon Apples and Buttermilk Syrup!
