How to Make Browned Butter Rice Krispie Treats
INGREDIENTS –
- butter (I prefer using unsalted butter, but if you use salted butter, you might want to add less sea salt)
- brown sugar, packed
- heavy whipping cream
- coarse or flaky sea salt
- mini marshmallows
- Rice Krispies cereal
INSTRUCTIONS –
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
- Add the sugar and whipping cream and stir until combined. Simmer on low for 5 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from heat.
- Stir in the salt and mix until combined.
- Add the marshmallows and stir until melted.
- Combine the cereal with the marshmallow mixture. You can add up to 2 more cups of marshmallows if you want them extra fluffy.
- Spray your hands or a wooden spoon with cooking spray and spread the rice crispies into a prepared pan. Push it down nice and tight in an even layer to make it all fit. (This is key for making thick rice krispie treats!)
- Cool, cut into squares, and serve!
STORAGE –
Store any leftovers in an airtight container on the counter at room temperature.
