20 Minute Breadsticks
We took our FAVORITE homemade pizza dough and turned them into delicious breadsticks! These breadsticks can go with any meal you’re serving – fancy steaks, simple plates of pasta, fresh salads, etc.!
Not only is this bread dough easy to make, but it’s also super fast, too! The recipe calls for 5 ingredients and comes together perfectly every time! If you’re worried about using yeast, try this recipe anyway. If your yeast isn’t bubbling like you think it should, bake it anyway! The flavor and texture of the dough really is the best – not too thick, not too thin.
Ingredients
- Warm water
- Active dry yeast
- Sugar
- All-purpose flour
- Salt
- Optional seasonings – butter/ olive oil, garlic powder, salt, Italian seasoning
How to Make Homemade Breadsticks
Activate Yeast – The first thing you need to do is to activate the yeast. Simply whisk together the water, yeast, and sugar together and then let it sit for about five minutes until it starts to bubble.
Stir – Next, you’ll need to add the flour and salt, and then mix everything together with a wooden spoon until the dough forms.
Knead – Now, gently knead the dough until it is mixed well and the dough is soft.
Rest – Form the dough into a ball and then cover and let it rest for 15 minutes.
Baking Prep – Place a pizza stone or overturned cookie sheet in a cooled oven, and then preheat the oven to 500 degrees F.
Form Your Breadsticks – On a floured surface, separate the dough into 8 balls, then roll each ball into an 8-inch rod. Transfer the breadsticks to the preheated baking stone or cookie sheet.
Cook – Bake the breadsticks for 8 to 9 minutes, or until the crust starts to turn golden brown.
Season – You can eat them as is, or brush them with melted butter or olive oil and sprinkle with salt, garlic powder, and/or Italian seasoning.
Recipe Notes
How Much Does It Make – This recipe makes about 8 breadsticks.
Make-Ahead – If you don’t want to bake the dough immediately, you can cover it and keep it refrigerated for 24 hours.
Freezing The Dough – If you want to freeze the dough, place dough in a large plastic bag (the dough will expand) and store it in the freezer for up to six months.
Thawing – To thaw, place the dough in the refrigerator overnight, then let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes before forming the breadsticks.
